Greg Carroll - Fujin SL fast commuter.

I commute about 45Ks (28 miles) per day in a wide variety of conditions including very busy and bumpy shared bike lanes (shared with pedestrians that is), busy highways and city center traffic, almost exclusively in rush hour. Being in Melbourne I even get caught up in bicycle traffic which is a bit weird (and no duller than getting stuck in traffic in my car!!) I carry the usual commuter load (about 5kgs); a paranoid persons’ tool kit, packed lunch, clothes, phone, mp3 player, two fingers ;-) etc. It’s my first recumbent bike (I’ve spent a few years on a trike and a bit of time in an hpv) and although there is a bit of a learning curve, I’m finding it to be a fine machine.

Dennis Tresenriter - Fujin SLII

This is my 2006 Fujin SL-II that I purchased third hand with 600 miles on it in August of 2006. Why the two previous owners orphaned it is anybody’s guess, but I’m glad they did. It fits me like a glove and is lightweight (20#), fast, and handles like a dream. I’ve put well over 6,000 miles on it since I bought it and loved every mile.

  • Rear Derailleur - Sram X9
  • Front Derailleur- Shimano 105
  • Front wheel - 406 Velocity Aerohead
  • Rear wheel - 571 Velocity Aerohead

  • Chain - HKS hollow pin
  • Pedals - Road Forte’ SPD
I live in a valley; anytime I ride it is a climb out. That is the reason for the 11-34 cassette and the triple crank. The Fujin with its lightweight really climbs well for a recumbent. I am ashamed to admit it is one of seven in my recumbent collection. It is very fast but not as fast as my Volae highracer.

I have put a Velocity Uriel front wheel and a Velocity Spartacus Pro on the rear of my Fujin. I find these wheels stronger and more aerodynamic.

The Water bottle carrier is my own design. It is simply Velcro-ed into place and is made of pet screen. My aerodynamic lower bag for tools and spare tube is also my design.

I now have the new handlebar tee section and have changed out the Fujin handlebars with Volae handlebars. They are much stiffer and give better control at very high speeds.

The Fujin has one of the best rides of any bike I have ever ridden. It is great for riding centuries. Passing uprights is what I live for and this bike delivers that gratification.

Vik Banerjee - Fujin SL & Taifun

This is my long distance machine setup for randonnees. It is very fast and very comfortable. I expected that when I got this bike - what surprised me was that it handles superbly at 5kph and at 90kph. In fact it is the easiest recumbent to ride that I have owned.
